SCHOLARSHIPS

The "Spirit Of Jake" Scholarships

JMC awards two "Spirit of Jake" scholarships annually in the amount of $1000 each.

Due Friday, May 15th, by 5pm

The Spirit of Jake Scholarship was established by the Maxfield Family and made possible by
the generous contributions from the Newport Community, friends and family. The Jake Maxfield
Connection strives to provide community service, literacy and scholarship support, and to honor the
life of Jacob Martin Maxfield. Jake was a student-athlete and a 2004 graduate of Newport High
School. He majored in American Studies and earned his Bachelor Degree in Liberal Studies from
Endicott College in 2008.

Literacy Connection Scholarship

JMC will award a "Literacy Connection"  scholarship annually in the amount of $1000.

Due Friday, May 15th, by 5pm

Literacy Connection Scholarship is also now available to graduating seniors from Newport, Claremont, or Sunapee, NH who have been accepted to a four-year college or university and will major in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.

Along with scholarship support, we also acknowledge a graduating Endicott College football player for their dedication and commitment.  The coaches choose an outstanding student-athlete who  exemplifies the qualities that made Jake so special. This person will be an athlete, a scholar,  someone who likes to help other people  and has an enthusiasm for life.

Past Recipients

The only stipulation of the award is that the recipient carry out a random act of kindness in Jake’s honor.  These acts have included contributions to Children's Hospital in Hartford, CT, contributions to their hometown athletic programs, and volunteering to help others.
